Introducing Our New Head Golf Course Superintendent

Our nine-hole, par-29, Jack Nicklaus Design® Golf Course features incredible views in every direction and we think it deserves a Superintendent that is willing to go above and beyond to make sure the course is in pristine playing conditions for our Members and guest.

In our commitment to take Bear Lake Reserve from good to great we have brought on an individual with over 13 years of experience in golf management to take on the new position of Head Golf Course Superintendent. We would like to introduce you to Scott Wilson! You can learn more about Scott and the skills he is going to bring to our golf course this year by reading his interview below.

1. Please explain your new manager role for 2018

As golf course superintendent in 2018 I plan to improve overall course condition and playability as well as make the course as enjoyable to play as it was designed to be. Our course is truly one of a kind. It is the only 9 hole Nicklaus designed course. Our spectacular views are unmatched and I believe our course should be as spectacular as the view. I believe our service and attention to details this year will provide our members with an unprecedented Bear Lake Reserve experience!

2. What are you most excited about for BLR 2018 season?

Bear Lake Reserve in 2018 is a place of exciting improvements and it shows as soon as you enter our property. We have redefined the Bear Lake Reserve Experience. Upgrades in every department, new amenities, and I believe a fresh new and exciting attitude which all of the staff has embraced and carry with us every day. We are a world class facility, with world class service and it is extremely exciting to be a part of this team.

3. Tell us about your golf experience before BLR?

My previous role in the Golf industry was assistant superintendent at The Concession Golf Club in Bradenton Florida, which was named by Golf Digest as the best new private course of 2006. Some of my best experiences are working in extreme climates such as Key Largo Florida with Card Sound Golf Club, Baltimore Maryland with Baltimore Country Club, and at Bradenton Florida with The Concession Golf Club. Other experiences include irrigation and water management, fertilizer and pesticide applications in environmentally sensitive areas. I have also implemented many different cultivation practices to enhance turf playability and aesthetics. I have managed large staffs and all the challenges that present themselves along the way. During my 13 year career in golf maintenance I have participated in and lead many projects in all facets of turf management from small renovations to complete construction and grow in of high end facilities.

4. Anything else you would like to let BLR Owners know?

My wife Brenda is a Vocational Rehabilitation Councilor for the state of NC. We have been married for 10 years and have twins, a son Aiden and daughter Addison, both 7 years old. We moved to the mountains from Sarasota/ Bradenton FL. We always spent our vacations here and decided we liked this pace of life.
